EN The paper presents the results of archaeobotanical studies carried out at two barrows, one of “Ciganska humka” at Šajkaš and another of “Medisova humka” at Žabalj in Vojvodina (Serbia). Both barrows were built by migrating steppe populations of the Yamnaya culture and date back to the first half of the third millennium BC. Only a few macroscopic plant remains (charcoal, wood, and organic mat fragments) were discovered in the graves. Some of them were very badly preserved and decayed, rendering the taxonomic identification of most of the pieces of wood and mat impossible. The use of oak Quercus trunks for grave construction (roofing and/or bottom layers) is only documented by a few wood samples at “Ciganska humka” and one at “Medisova humka”. Moreover, a few fragments of Quercus charcoal were preserved in the fill of grave no. 2.
