EN This article deals with the reception of the domestic cat in the central and northern European Barbaricum during the Roman Period. "e primary issue is to investigate whether social and cross-cultural relationships are re#ected in the reception of a new animal species in the Baltic zone. It is therefore crucial to evaluate discoveries in the space of cemeteries (this is exempli!ed by the discoveries from Cecele, Kastrup and Överbo) or settlements and to trace the routes of in#ux and spread of the new species. Some issues at this stage of research could only be hinted at. It is necessary to carry out a chronological-genetic veri!cation of cat remains, which would make it possible to verify previous !ndings, as well as to provide new pieces of information on contacts of the Roman state with the “barbarian” part of Europe.
