EN The article discusses two different methods used to preserve wooden archaeological remains taken from a wet environment. They are described using as an example two dugout boats accidentally discovered in the bed of the Bug River in eastern Poland. One of them, after being discovered and documented, was immediately re-immersed, while the other was air dried for almost two years in an outbuilding. The extremely different storage conditions after extraction from the wet environment forced the use of different conservation methods, which are described in the text.
