EN This article presents the results of analyses of the chem-ical composition of organic matter and the occurrenceof characteristic geochemical and biochemical markersin 17 samples collected from the Second World Warmass graves excavated in the Szpęgawski Forest andDeath Valley, Poland. The results show that attemptsto cover up mass crimes by burning the bodies of thevictims have left their own traces—that each attempt tocover up the crime is associated with the creation offurther evidence of the crimes committed
