EN The investigation of “Ciganska humka” barrow in Šajkaš resulted in the discovery of a relatively abundant collection of animal bone remains associated with the older phase of the Yamnaya culture. Their analysis included species and anatomical determinations, bone measurements, and the determination of age and sex of the animals. The collection comprises 412 osteological remains, more than half of which (52.5%) could be identifi ed in terms of species and anatomical parts. Cattle bones prevail in the assemblage, constituting more than 60% of the total. Bones of goats/sheep and pigs have been recorded as well. Single bones belonging to horse (scapula) and aurochs (rib) are unique fi nds. Remains of adult and mature individuals clearly prevail in the analysed material. Moreover, a high share of bones originating from carcass parts valuable for consumption was recorded. In the context of research on the Yamnaya culture in its Danube-Tisza range, the analysed osteological assemblage can be seen as unique, and it is of great importance for studies on the subsistence patterns of steppe communities of eastern European origin.
