EN During excavations at “Ciganska humka” barrow in Š ajkaš , a Sarmatian burial was found in the south-eastern part of the explored area; it was positioned beyond the ditch of the younger phase of the barrow’s mound. The burial contained remnants of an adult male and a copper-alloy vessel (possibly a casserole), two buckles, one made of iron and the other bronze, and three fl int fi re strikers. Considering the chronology of particular elements of the grave goods assemblage, primarily the buckles, the time of the burial should be referred to the end of the 2nd – the beginning (possibly fi rst half) of the 3rd c. AD. Regarding the characteristics of its grave goods assemblage, this burial is undoubtedly an interesting example of contacts between the Sarmatians and the inhabitants of the provinces of the Roman Empire, and it marks yet another point on the map of the Sarmatian settlement in Šajkaška, and more broadly in the region of Bačka.
