EN The archaeological research undertaken within the Romanian–Polish projects in the Casimcea River Valley was a pretext to organize excavations in several caves located in the region (“La Baba,” “La Izvor,” “Craniilor,” and “Grota Călugărului”). This study details the results of the archaeological excavations realized in the last twelve years. The authors sustain a hypothetical localization for vicus Casiani, possible identifications of native places according to descriptions by St. John Cassian, as well as the choice of remote places and caves in CheileDobrogei–Casian region as suitable shelters for monastic life. This study also discusses several aspects regarding Christianity in Scythia Minor. Archaeological research conducted in multiple caves at Cheile Dobrogei brought about many interesting discoveries displaying in the microscale the complicated ethno-cultural situation of this society inhabiting the territory of Dobruja during the Roman-Byzantine and early Medieval periods.
