EN For many women, exile is a life tragedy and a cause of social exclusion. Throughout the period of forcedmigration, they are exposed to numerous diculties, severe stress and many adaptation problems, whichare often accompanied by social ostracism in their own cultural group. According to research sourcesmade available by international humanitarian organizations and non-governmental institutions dealingwith the issue of discrimination against refugee women, phenomena referred to as SGBV (Sexual andGender Based Violence), constitute an increasingly frequent cause of their escapes from their place oforigin. Abuses denoting sexual and gender violence most often concern serious crimes, i.e. tracking inhuman beings, kidnappings, domestic violence, sexual molestation and rapes. There are also so-called„gender precedents”, rooted in cultural practices (ritual mutilation, forced minors to marry, forced dowryand others), which are considered a form of persecution. Observations made by the author who conductsresearch in national centers for foreigners applying for refugee status also show that violence and refugeestatus are strongly coupled, especially in the case of women. This text is based on research conducted in2009-2014 and 2014-2019 among forced migrants and their families settled in Poland, mainly comingfrom the former USSR countries. The author discusses the phenomenon and the most common formsof cultural violence based on sex and gender and presents the most important legal regulations aimedat preventing violence against forced migrants (with particular emphasis on the CAHVIO Convention).
