EN In the service of patriarchal schemes: the woman’s figure in Polish monumental art. (1945-1956) The article describes the main presentation schemes using the image of a woman in the post-war monumental art of the People’s Poland in the years 1945-1956. The text presents the actual scale of commemorations dedicated to female heroes and honoured women. It focuses on the analysis of the ‘visual language’ of selected monuments, on intentional messages and hidden subtexts. It is shown also why and in which way the woman’s figure in monumental art was used to reinforce the values of the patriarchal social order and to propagate the interests of the communistic authorities, the bodies of which were dominated by men.
