EN It was claimed many times, that there was a long time existing glass workshop at Ostrówek in Opole. This workshop was supposed to produce glass jewelery and also develop glazed objects like egg-rattles and glazed vessels. Some of the researchers even suggested that it was a place of making glassware. The aim of this paper is to verify the problem of a glass workshop in Opole, and if it had been existed – to specify what kind of a workshop (type A – making the glass masse, or type B – making goods form semi-finished products) it had been. Very important issue of the study was also to answer the question – which glass and glazed objects might be the products of the local workshop and which of them are foreign and from which lands were imported. To solve the abovementioned problems many analyzes of the chemical composition of glass goods (jewelery, pieces of glassware) artifacts interpreted as semi-finished products (eg deformed rings) and finds which might be connected with glassmaking (glass lumps and slag-like lumps) were carried out. Comparative research on the technology of production and design of the glass items from Opole with products known from other European centers was also conducted. It was found that the existence of a glass workshop at the stronghold Opole very likely, but it was certainly not an A-type workshop, but small and periodically functioning (probably at the end of 10th and then in the 12th century), workshop type B. This workshop produced primarily glass jewelery – monochrome beads and glass rings. Perhaps it was also dealing with glazing of pottery vessels, although it is not certain. Such products as glassware, some types of jewelery (eg spindlebeads, mosaic-beads, corn-beads, glass bracelets) as well as egg-rattles are products of foreign origin and are not be associated with the existence of a glass workshop at Ostrówek in Opole.
